The Festival of News

Our client, part of News Corporation – one of the world’s largest and most influential media organisations – likes to be bold. And the News UK team made the brave decision that for its Cannes Lions 2017 presence, it wouldn’t actually be in Cannes at all!

Instead, we moved the whole show into the hills to take over the historic and extremely beautiful Chateau Garibody. There we created a private business event that was part news, part conference, part sales event, and part entertainment festival.

Our brief was to create a distinctive, exclusive, high-level business meeting environment for the daytime. And then deliver the absolutely best parties at Cannes Lions for our client’s invited guests in the evening. We also needed the capability to refresh the venue to take in regional audiences, different brands and different objectives, on a session-by-session basis.

The News Chateau

We managed three days of brunch, lunch, and daytime meetings; a programme of top business speakers; and private receptions and dinners. The event helped affirm News UK with senior agency and brand representatives, position its core brands as an exciting and relevant partner, promote the ‘Quality News’ agenda, and drive sales across the News UK portfolio.

Festival du Chateau

In the evenings, a programme of visual and sensory experiences involving actors, musicians, performers, stage sets, and a gastronomic extravaganza, created memorable evenings for all News UK guests. Seven different caterers produced a series of high-end food experiences, actors took guests on a participative journey through the grounds, where performers kept them entertained and enthralled. A true festival environment with lots to see, lots to do and lots to talk about.

And on the Wednesday night, our brief was quite simple. Put on the best party night of Cannes 2017 for 350 special guests. Edith Bowman, Cuban Brothers, an exclusive 1 hour set from Ed Sheeran, and Fatboy Slim to close the show. It doesn’t get much better as a party line up. Especially as Ed Sheeran was only a few days away from his acclaimed 2017 Glastonbury set. The evening was everything it promised to be. Sensational.
